Show testers who really shared the build

Pro and Team

A tester who gets an install link cannot tell who sent the file. Anyone can upload an app called "Acme Banking" to a free host. With verified publisher, your install pages show "Shared by Acme, verified owner of acme.com" and the date we last saw your DNS record, so the tester knows the build came from the company that owns the domain.

It proves you control the domain. It says nothing about whether the app is safe, and the page says that too.

Example

Install page

  • Shared byAcme, verified owner of acme.com
  • Domain checkedNov 3, 2026
  • Next checkEvery week
It proves the domain, not that the app is safe.

Made for

  • Agencies sending builds to clients who ask "is this really from you?"
  • Companies whose testers are told never to install apps from unknown senders
  • Teams sharing builds with outside testers, partners or app reviewers

What it ends

  • Testers who refuse to install a build from a link they cannot place
  • A copycat build on a free host that looks the same as yours

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Add your domain

In Settings, Verified publisher, enter the domain you own, such as acme.com. The owner and admins of a workspace can do this.

  2. Step 2

    Add one TXT record

Where your DNS is managed, add a TXT record named _appforshare.acme.com with the value shown (appforshare-verify= and a code). Then press Check now.

  3. Step 3

    Testers see the line

Install pages, channel pages and the sign in page of private projects show "Shared by <your name>, verified owner of acme.com" and the date it was checked, in the tester's language.

Checked every week, and it drops on its own

Once verified, we look the record up again every week from public DNS. If it is gone, we check once more an hour later; when it is still gone, the line comes off your pages and the workspace owner gets one email (at most one in 30 days). Put the record back and press Check now, or wait for the next weekly check, and the line returns. If DNS cannot be reached, nothing changes until the next try.

Which name is shown

The name is your account name. On Team, the brand name from White label is used, and the line shows on your white label pages and your custom domain too. Without a name the page says "Shared by the verified owner of acme.com". An email address is never shown.

On Team, a live custom domain counts on its own: if apps.acme.com serves your install links, pages say you are the verified owner of apps.acme.com with no second record. Add a domain in Settings to show a different one, such as acme.com.

Questions

Which plan do I need?
Pro or Team.
Does it mean AppForShare checked the app?
No. It means the workspace that shared the build controls the domain on the page, as seen in public DNS on the date shown. Testers should still only install builds they expect.
Can I see it from CI or an AI tool?
Yes. Build details in the CI API (GET /api/ci/builds/<id>) carry verifiedPublisher, appforshare info prints the line, and the MCP tool build_info returns it.
What if I remove the TXT record?
At the next weekly check, confirmed an hour later, the line comes off your pages and the owner gets one email. Your links keep working.
