A channel link you can read out loud
Pro and Team
A channel link already stays the same while builds change behind it. With a custom address it is also easy to type, say on a call or print next to a QR code: appforshare.io/c/acme-beta.
Example
Beta channel
- Addressappforshare.io/c/acme-beta
- PreviousRedirects for 30 days
- Update checkWorks on both
Made for
- Agencies that give each client a named beta link
- Teams that print a channel QR code with the address under it
- Anyone moving from Diawi's custom address add-on
What it ends
- Reading an 8 character random code to a client over the phone
- A printed address nobody can type
How it works
Step 1
Pick the address
On the project's Testing tab, press Address on the channel, or run appforshare channel-address acme-beta --channel beta --app <bundle id>. 3 to 40 lower case letters, digits and hyphens.
Step 2
Share it
The channel link and QR code now use the new address. It opens the newest build in the channel, as before.
Step 3
Old links keep working
The previous address redirects the page for 30 days, and the in-app update check on it keeps answering.
Addresses are never reused
An address is unique on AppForShare in any letter case, and some words are reserved. Once a channel has used an address, nobody else can pick it, even after the channel is deleted, so testers who kept an old link never land on someone else's build. A channel can go back to an address it had before.
Good to know
- The page redirect from the old address lasts 30 days. The in-app update check on it keeps working after that.
- On a custom domain (Team) the channel uses the same address on your domain.
Questions
- Which plan do I need?
- Pro or Team, the plans that include channels.
- Can I set it from CI or an AI tool?
- Yes. The CLI command channel-address, PUT /api/ci/channels/address and the MCP tool set_channel_address.
- What happens to apps that check for updates?
- Apps built with the old address keep getting answers from the in-app update check, so you do not need a new build.
