Questions
- What is a UDID?
- The Unique Device Identifier is a 40 character code (25 on newer devices) that Apple assigns to every iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Developers add it to their provisioning profile so a test build can be installed on that device.
- Is this safe?
- The profile asks iOS for the UDID, model, iOS version, device name, serial number, IMEI, ICCID and Wi-Fi address (iOS leaves out any the device does not have). Nothing stays installed on your device, and the result page is only kept for one day.
- Why does iOS ask me to go to Settings?
- Apple only lets profiles be reviewed in Settings. Open Settings, tap Profile Downloaded near the top, then Install. Safari opens your result right after.
- Can I send the UDID to my developer?
- Yes. The result page has a copy button, and with a free account you can keep every device in one list and export it for the Apple Developer portal.
